Default 05 ZX6R Gas tank size

Hey all,

I have a 05 636, and everywhere I look online it shows that it has a 4.5 gal tank. The guy at the dealership told me that the low fuel light turns on with .5 gal left. When the light turns on and I fill up, it only takes 3 gal.

Does that mean that when the light turns on there is still 1.5 gal in the tank?

Sounds like you are getting comfy with your ride. At least you have an idiot light telling you that you have 1.5 gallons left. lol The trip meter is your friend.

Could be some variation in how you are fueling the bike, the level of your sensor, and the amount of usable fuel (you cant use all the fuel in your tank) You could experiment to see how far you can push it, but until you know, err on the side of caution.

I reset the trip meter with ever fill, and im getting about 120 miles on the 3 gallons used (39-40 mpg). Sound about right economy-wise? This is actually the first bike that ive owned, so i just wanna make sure.

Sounds abit on the rich side. But I am not sure on your tune or elevation. I averaged 43 mpg with my 10 r at 4500-8000 ft. with a small 170ish blast to get the carbon out. I would expect the 6r to do better.

Depends on how you ride, if your not in the power band 40 would be about right.

I ride very easy... usually shifting between 7k and 8k... usually skip shifting 1-3-6.

What is the power band for the 636? am i actually hurting the fuel economy by shifting that way?

For reference, it is (as far as i know) stock with a two-brothers exhaust (midpipe and dual cans). But I did notice that when doing some free-revs in the driveway that it smells like it is running pretty rich. Is there a way to check/fix it to make sure that im not wasting gas or hurting the engine?

Also, im in southern cali... border of LA and Orange counties... kinda near the beach. not sure what the alt is here, but pretty low
