Default 05 Air Filters

Ok Guys I'm gonna need a lot of help here. Im having trouble with this air filter BS. OK well let me start from the begining, I was looking gor the best air filter for my set up,(most you guys know it if not look t the bottom). Well i decided BMC after everyone say there was more airflow. Talked to some techs and i was informed all the BMC is, was a exact copy of the race K&N, end the end same $h!t. Talked to some guys that compete regonaily,, they have a zx10r and a ZX6rr and i aproched them on the air filter they were running. They infomred me that they were still running the stock air filter and had no intention on changing it. When asked why, they simple said all the air filters out there are just improving a small amount of air flow which in turn is not going to produce HP in the end so it was usless to get an aftermarket one. So my question is stock or aftermarket, if you guys have done these swap to your bike let me know if there is any diference Dyno prints would help out a lot . Thnx looking forward to seeing your posts

I have the k&n and really havent noticed a differece, but i never had it on a dyno. There is a post in here that shows some dyno results with positive gains with the k&n installed.

I have K&N in all my vehicles, I like to be able to wash and reuse them. It's mostly personal preference. I have talked to racers and opinions vary. Go with what you like.

I would stick with a stock air filter. Think about it, all a k&n filter does is increase air flow, it allows more particles to pass through it and enter your engine. I speek only from personal experience. Had a k&n on my 5.0 and every time i went to clean it there would be dirt in my intake tubing. Didnt have that problem with a stock filter. Good luck.

dirt where? pass through what? WTF did you install it correctly? Sounds like an install problem not a filter problem. I have had k&n in every thing i owned since i was 16!!!!!!

No, not a install prob. If i had probs installing a filter i would wish someone shoot me in the back of my head. since i do this kinda stuff for a living. Anyways i still ran thoes filters in all my cars too, didnt really care. However will not run them on my baby (zx10r).

Hey, Gotrice sorry i failed to mention that my filter kits were all cold air kits or what you would call finder mounts, so they mounted pretty low to the ground and sucked like a vaccum. I didnt use the drop in filter where you would retain the factory tubing. Not trying to push my opinion on anyone just my 2 cents. peace.

I whent out and checked my intake on my ford after reading your post and found it to be clean. I have aftermarket exhaust and intake. The intake is 4" and the pickup is on top left frnt. This filter has been cleaned 2 and the truck has 90k, it is due again soon.

K&n recommends leaving only 18% of the surface area open before you clean it. I dont know about you but that is not alot. My 04 ram Hemi has the cold air intake (offroad kit) and the tube is also clean.(15k) only thing i can think of is if it was close to the road that the oil got washed of and the your f**ked., cause then it will draw in dirt into your intake. The oil is the main filtration part of the filter. JMO
