$ new fork seal?
i was looking at a 91 600R w/ 8444 miles but it needs new fork seals form what the guy told me. He said as is he would sell the bike to me for $2100 but would have them replaced and sell me the bike for $2300. What does it normally cost to have the seals done? Is it worth giving him the extra $200? The bike is in good shape otherwise, minor scratches you cant see unless you get really close and the bike sounds good.

$200 is about right. I would let him take care of it. Less for you to worry about. But to answer your question, Yes, have him do it and give him the extra 200.

What are you on now madkaw Icdoublevison? j/k man.
Jayden if he's willing to fix the front seals on the bike then sell it to you I would say go for it. Just as long as it rides as good as it looks. I talked to a friend on mine and he just had his fork seals replaced and it cost him around 200 to fix.

I agree. That is close to what I charge in a fork seal replacement. But not knowing who he takes it to or even if "he" will do it. That is a little scary in itself. Some unknown's to contemplate there.

RE: $ new fork seal?
I charge $125-150 to replace seals with the forks off the bike and no extra work involved (no polishing, sanding, or whatever due to rust/corrosion) seals and oil included. $200 sounds like a dealer price (I am a race suspension shop).
You can of course change it yourself, but if you don't know what to look for, it will leak again very soon after. Just changing the seal is never enough, you have to figure out why it was leaking in the first place and fix it. Thats what you are paying the pro. the labor for.
