Default sprocket?

i have read many different answers to this, but, which would be better -1 in front or +3 in back? i have heard 1 down in front will run up miles on bike, but wouldnt up 3 in back do the same?

Hey man
yes it would.it's straight forward gearing. both will give you more lower end, -1 in the front will be a moredrastic change, and both will lower your top end, and make your speedo off. +3 in the back would be less drastic a change, it all depends on what you want out of this change

Agreed with yoman1. Altering the sprockets -1fr or +3 rear will bring the power down lower for the application. A -1 fr is cheaper, but I always preferred to fine tune using the rear sprocket sizing. Why people who ride on the street use a speedo healer.

ok thanks. I just ride mostly in town alot to work and around here. I rarely ever get on freeway unless just too nice of a day and want to get out. I think i will go with the 1 down in front and get a speedohealer. Does anyone recommend a certain brand for front sprocket?

That again differs. A z1000 has the Oring sprocket. Aftermarket does not. I am still playing with sprockets, so no definite answer.

people usually put a speedo healer so the miles are somewhat acurate when you sell the bike. I put a 520 kit ( -1 up front + 2in the rear) on my 05 zx-10 and the speedo reads around 5 mph off. when i'm doing 60 it's really 55.

welllll, what is your take on just the -1 fr? Did that place the power and ride characteristics within your comfy area?

What did the -1 do on fuel milage ? A few of our mountain runs there's no gas stations for about 120-130 mi.
