RE: oil change..how often
I changed the oil the first time at 600 miles after breakin, then agian at 1500 miles. At 3000 miles I changed the bike over to AmsOil 10w40 synthetic oil, which is good for about 10,000-15,000 miles.

RE: oil change..how often
600 mi is for the first oil change. After that it's every 4000 miles assuming "normal" riding and standard oil. So
sayeth the manual, anyway. As you can see from J's post, there's lots of variations!
If nothing else, do what the manual says. I spoke to some service guys about it and they felt that it was perfectly
adequate.

RE: oil change..how often
Change every 3000 miles under normal riding conditions. This is after initial break in period of 1500 miles, during which I would change oil more frequently, say every 500 miles. But that is just me, this has worked for me, whether it was a street bike or one that was going to be road raced.

If you don't do 12,000 miles a year, change annually. In very hot or very dusty areas change oil at about half these intervals.
All of my bikes have had changes by the book, and some have done 120,000 miles with no engine strip down and no oil useage between services.
And some of you guys need to learn how to read the manual.
