Longest Tire Life?

Longest Tire Life?
At 10,737 miles, it finally came time (on May 7, 2009) to replace the original OEM tires (BattleAx if I remember right) on the 2007 650r. On the front tire, it matched up with the top line of Lincoln's head (LOL yes, I use the penny method) and the rear tire still covered his entire hairline. I found it a little odd, in that shouldn't the rear tire be more worn than the front? Regardless, the mechanic was somewhat amazed I still had the original OEM's on. I've have had my "toy" since Christmas 2007 (with only 6 miles on it). I picked up the Conti Road Attack and have broken them in already on a nice ride around the island . Well, hopefully the new tires will last just as long as the OEMs...that remains to be seen! Take care all, ride safe and many ALOHA's to everyone!

Lots of posts about this on other fora. At 11K miles my original front tyre expired just about where I'm used to with all the other bikes I've had over the years, but the rear tyre still had a little more tread. Given that it needs a little more, both tyres needed replacement at the same time. Normally I expect about 5K from a rear, and to change 2 rears for every front.
I'm guessing that it's a combination of the latest rear tyres wearing a bit better, maybe having a bit more tread depth to start with, and maybe from having a high performance tyre on a bike with only modest performance.
Whichever - it's saving me money on tyres.
