Roughly around 20-24 hours, and cost of materials was $300. I did get a hell of a deal on the parts so it in most cases probably would have costed more. Just depends on how lucky you get with ebay.....

Most of the hours went into the trial and error for the main subframe bracket. I plasma cut it out and bent it, then tried it, if I did not like it I redesigned and tried again tell i found the bracket I liked.....

Hey man, it's something original and something that you like... that's all that matters. You are the one that rides it, and I commend your doing something different. I think it looks good. Good job!

thats awesome... so what size of mig welder did you use? and i saw that the bracket had well was that the seat mount bolted to it? and was that made of aluminum? well in any case did you have to weld it on at a pre determined position? or was it trial and error to get the angel right?

You dont weld the frame of an ex500 with mig, well you could but I would not recomend it because of the thin wall. Tig is was I used. It is not just the plastice from the R6, but the entire aluminum subframe. Cut off the ninja subframe, welded on steel bracket, and bolted complete r6 tail on. The angle is a combination of how I like the seating position/height and looks....

cool deal man. custom work that the owner of the bike does for themselves always impresses me. maybe because i tend to do the same thing to everything i own.

a light amp mig would be as tangible as a tig... what size and composition were the sticks you used to tig? how thin IS the frame to weld on?

A mig would work well on gas for this app, but a tig is/makes a cleaner weld.

309 Stainless, I did not remove the engine on my bike so I opted for less sparks! The wall is 1/16" at most.
