The only thing I ever used a torque wrench for was main and rod bearings on engine rebuilds. I think they are over rated. I would rather feel how tight the bolt is. Just my opinion. I mean I have been changing oil in all of my cars for 20 + years and I have never used a torque wrench on an oil drain plug. However I can tell you one place that I just recently learned that you can do some serious damage by not using a torque wrench, and that's on lug nuts on your car. I found out that you can actually warp rotors from the start and so torquing the lug nuts keeps that from happening.

hey guys i got another question. i'm suppose to take out the "engine oil drain plug" and the manuel say i need a torque wrench to put it back. The manuel says the tightening torque for the "Engine oil drain plug is 29 N-m (3.0 kg-m, 22 ft-lb).

Do i really need a torque wrench for the tightening or can i just tighten it as much as my stength can do?
There is a thing called Idiot tight. you may be able to get it off now but as it sits there heating and cooling for months it can be very difficult to get it back off. Like the other posts I only use the torque wrench on more technical parts where serious damage can occur, but if you dont know what 22 ft/lbs feels like then try the torque wrench the first time just to get a feel for it. For many parts over tight can cause more damage than leaving it loose.

Ive heard synthetics arent really that good for wet clutches, making them slip and what not.............. I guess this info must be out dated........... the synthetics working pretty good for you guys? I change my oil every 1000 miles and filter every 2000........Im guessing with me doing it so much synthetic for me would be pointless???

I've heard that from stunt riders. They tend to ride hard on the clutch so they'd be the ones to notice it. I'm fairly certain getting motorcycle synthetic oil won't harm your bike at all. There's also semi-syn if you're worried about that kind of stuff and if you still plan to change your oil every 1000 miles.

I used to be that way also. And no failures. hmm, my other ride I did switch to amsoil though. Comparison time if any.
