Default tire preasure.... and .....tire life span?

I know the tires should be 32psi up front and 36psi on the back, per the manual.....
I went by CycleGear today and someone there told me to put a little more up front..... to have it like 34/35.....

Why would that be, and is he correct on this at all??? He said it's better for the tire??? Any input please!!!
CinC?

Also, how long do these tires last, under normal conditions???
Do the front and rear have same life span, or different?

List what tire you are talking about and how you ride. You know as all of us that certain tires and uses are using different pressures. Thanks

In that case I would be rolling with the manufactures recommended pressures.

Stick with the manufacturer's numbers - thats what I do. I can't answer you on tire life span.......I put about 5,000 km on the tires that are currently on my bike (I'm not sure how many km's the previous owner put on those tires), but I did end up buying new tires for mine for this summer.

+1^ Putting it right at the max pressure will give you the longest tire life and fuel economy. On the track they say to reduce your pressure a little to increase your contact patch, tire flexibility and overall traction, but for workaday riding...

Our tire choice for the 500 is relatively limited, but if you ever get another bike stay away from Dunlop D220's!
They make the bike try to stand up in corners, (so that you must keep heavy pressure on the bars to keep the bike leaned into a turn, even if you're hanging off like a GP racer.) And they are quick to 'cup' and you get the speed-wobbles whenever you hands are not locked to the bars.
They didn't last any longer than the D208's, but that was the first time I'd ever replaced the tires before they were worn out.
Sucksucksucksucksucksucksucksucksuck....

And take it easy when you put those new tires on, or you might do like I did last September:

true, correct on the limited availability of tires for this ride in those sizes. If not Dunlop, try others.

at first I was looking for the cheapest tires I could get my hands on, just regular sport tires. I found some Avons that I think are priced better than any others. They arent the venoms though, which I hear are pretty good tires. Anyone hear bad things about Avon? Should I steer clear of the cheapest tires out there? I would rather pay a little extra and be sure Im getting a decent tire than end up on the road like a pancake............
