I ~like~ that green!
Think of the first service as the final phase of factory quality control. And since it's your bike now, you get to pay for it.
Whenever you buy a bike new from a dealership, try to get them to include the first service in the purchase price and get it in writing. If they won't do it, ask if they'll give you a credit on the purchase price toward that first service. They probably won't do it if the weather's nice and there's a line of guys waiting behind you to buy bikes, but sometimes a dealership will be horny enough for the sale.
I'm fairly mechanically competent, but I still take it to the dealership for the first service. Why? Because if you don't have this done (and keep the receipt) they might attempt to wiggle out of honoring any warranty claims in the future if you haven't let a licensed dealership do the first service.
On my last two new bike purchases, I've done everything on the first-service checklist myself AFTER letting the dealership do it and was generally satisfied with the results. Either they did their job at the dealership, or the bike came assembled correctly from the factory both times. But no matter how much you pay someone, they're still not going to care for your bike the same way you would.
Hmmm... maybe the next time I buy a new bike, I'll loosen a few of the engine mount bolts and see if they catch it and tighten them...
(Thanks for the idea!)

I've also had them leave the filler cap off. Thats why I do everything myself.

I happened to do my first service a little late at 220 miles after I brought it home.
I would be questioning both depts on when it was dropped. I wouldn't be happy either.
they told me today that the bike looks like it was droped, so the place that sold it to me must have droped it or something....
