gas mileage?

RE: gas mileage?
Backing the pilot screws out will increase the amount of fuel in the fuel-air mix, which does allow the engine to run slightly cooler if you spend a lot of time riding in traffic or waiting at stoplights.
But this also means it will consume gasoline more quickly.
I generally like to keep the pilots within half a turn of the stock setting recommended in the service manual. If you back them out too far, not only does your mileage suffer, but you'll be more likely to foul plugs. Also, a drastically over-rich condition will rinse the oil film from your cylinder walls, which is tough on your piston rings and will lead to a premature loss of compression (and a dead engine).
(Sorry for usurping, IROC. I'd be interested to hear your take on it too.)
Peace!

RE: gas mileage?
lol thats ok i havent touched anything yet, if it made a difference of atleast 5mpg or higher id jump in but if its just gonna b maybe 1-2 mpg then to mess w/ what the factory set isnt worth the hassle imo. most of my riding is 70-80 mph hiways so all that coolin stuff isnt worth the hassle either to me. i generally dont like messing w/ anything on a carb especially if it starts and runs w/o any problems(basically why mess w/ something if it really isnt broken?) i have seen to many ppl over the years go right after a carb to find out later that it wasnt anything to do w/ it
