Default 93 and lower vs. 94 snd up..

how much difference is there b/w the newer and older model 500's? i have read minor sproket changes. i was also reading how someone shifts at 4k rpms...my bike hits 4k so fast i would constantly b shifting. i was also thinkin of tradin my 92 in on a brand new 500..if i did this do i have to break in the motor as well? and if so what entails that? o ya do the transmissions shift any quieter than the older?...any input greatly appreciated

the biggest thing is the 17 inch wheels, so you can get the good rubber. other that that just minor stuff IE. headlight shape, gauges, rear disc...

id say unless you're racing and need the 17s, stick with what ya got

oh yeah, there is a change to the sprockets too... i forget the specifics though... my 93 had 16t front sprocket. i think the 94+ had 17t. not sure about the rear sprocket...

but they are so easily changed, especially the front, that its not really any reason to go buy a new bike lol

and the new ones are fuel injected as well ? or is it just the "distributor"?

hmm 17 in the front and 17 wheels...would this make the bike more hiway geared? o one more thing ...will the 17's fit on a 92? or would this b to much trouble considering the 17's have the rear disc?

no they are not fuel injected. that would be a MAJOR change lol.

not sure what you mean by the "distributor" ???

maybe they changed the tooth count on the sprocket to make up for any change that may be an effect of the 17s. not really sure.. maybe someone else knows about that?

you can put the 17s on, but you need everything from the footpeg back. I.E. Swingarm, wheel, disc brake, caliper, lines, MC, pedal for that side, linkage etc etc. it can be done though.

hmm i read that in the newer models the ignitor box is different due to the newer distributor system (sorry i may not b usin the correct lingo here) and yeah idk bout puttin the 17s on mine lol sounds like alotta work...however i did think maybe i would gear mine down just a bit ...i dont really care if my top speed wont b 125 anymore ...i dont really get to stay there very long anyways lol

the ignitor may be different... im not sure. go to ron ayers and check to see if the part numbers are the same for a 1g and 2g...

there are a bunch of other small differences too. one that comes to mind is the ignition pickup on 1g has 2 wires, whereas the pickup on the 2g only has one.

if you look in a haynes manual or something, it will usually say "for EX500A models do this, for 500D models do this instead"

also, IIRC, the forks are 1mm bigger on a 2g.
