150 rear tire help
Hey all.
I got a 150/60 rear for my 2000 500r. From what I read on other ex500 sites (which seem to be down this week) you can fit a 150 with no problem.
So I have an appointment this Friday to have my new tires put on. It is not a bike shop, but the guy doing it was a cycle mechanic up to a year ago when he sold his shop. (good friend of mine) But he does have his inspection license and does minor work out of his house. He said that the tire swap should be no problem.
I was looking today, and I still dont believe that a 150/60 is gonna fit. Atleast not with the chain I have now. As far as rear adjustments go, the tire adjustment is more near the front of the swing arm, than the rear. I would agree that if the adjustment was more to the rear, there would be no tire fitment issue. But I am worried that we are going to mount the tire to find out it wont fit with the chain I have. And he is not a shop so I need to have all the parts with me.
For those of you who have done the 150 swap, was your chain stock? I just got my bike (6500 miles) so I assume the chain is stock. The chain does have a little rust on it, so I want to get a new chain anyways.
What do you all suggest. Do I need an extra link or two to set the tire to the rear..??

RE: 150 rear tire help
Worked well. It fit with the stock chain no problem. The chain guard plastic did need a little trim because it did hit the tire. And there is also a metal clip that is welded to the swing arm that had to be cut off. It just stablises the guard from pushed. I cut the off with a roto wheel.
It does handle great.... And it does dive into the turn a little better I think. Aside from that, it looks little bit more like a big boys bike. Has a much sportier stance now.
I just dont know if every shop will do it. The wheels we have call for no more than a 140. Like I said, the 150 did fit, but the side wall cuts in, instead of being square to the rim. I have to go away for a week, but when I get back, I'll snap some pics and post them on the site.
