Default Wintertime prep work ?

Hey guys , Just wondering what I should be doing to prep my bike for the winter months . I was told to put both wheels off the ground and take the battery out , other than that what are some good things to do to pack this thing up for the wintertime ?

Change your oil so the old, acidic oil is not corroding the metals inside the engine. Fill up the gas as full as you can so rust doesn't form in the tank. Also throw some fuel stabilizer in while you're at it. Some people use fogging oil for the cylinders, but I don't find it necessary since my bike doesn't sit that long.

The only winter prep work I do is get out the long johns, leathers, and keep the revs below 10k on the snow!

But seriously, at least tender the battery and full tank with stabilizer if it's going to sit the whole winter.

The battery tender is a good idea, but it's a better idea to take the battery out all together and bring it in the house where it doesn't freeze. Otherwise you might have to replace the battery come spring time.

You say tires off the ground, which just means off the the actual ground so being in a shed would be fine right? It's not necessary to actually suspend both tires in the air somehow right? I also read somewhere to drain the carbs. I thought this meant empty the gas tank but I read here to fill the tank which is opposite of what I thought to do.

JaBr, I use front and rear stands to keep the rides off of the ground. Keep the contact patch of the tire from touching the ground/surface.

Some people who have a short down time will fill and use stabil. Anything over 2 months, I prefer to completely drain the system. Not saying that it is right or wrong, just how I do it.
