Default Valve Noise

Should you be able to hear your valves when riding? I can hear them when cruising @55mph. It doesn't sound bad loud but i can definatly hear them. Valve noise is common in these bike correct? I am @ 5100 miles and since I bought the bike used I don't know if all the valve services have been done yet. Regaurdless @ 6k I am going to get the valves adjusted.

Get them done now why take the chance. I dont hear mine at 55, you can not hear the tensioner at 55.

PS make sure you have enough oil.

Engines with the tappet screw adjusters like the 250R and the 500R are naturally louder than shim over/under bucket shims. It's when you can't here the tappets, that there's a problem. The valves need a specific clearance range to be safe, and when that clearance gets to zero, there will be no valve noise, justvalve-traindamage.
