Default Tire questions

Hey folks. Yesterday I bought a new 09 KLX250SF motard bike. It comes stock with the EXACT same tires as on the new Ninja 250R (same brand and size).

Question is are the IRC Road Winner tires any good? I have never heard of IRC and love Michelins on my FZ1.

I want a good tire the will be good at high lean angles so that I can trust the 250SF at the high lean angles it is able to achieve.

What tires are you folks putting on your 250R's?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome to KF and congrats on the bike. hmm, I am not an IRC tire fan, but if you prefer michelins, you may want to stick with that feel/performance. The michelins stiff carcass may be more beneficial for the motard as well.

Welcome to the Forum, I'm a big fan of Pirelli's Dragon super corsa. But If your into Michelins. I hear the Pilot's are really good also. Let us know what worked best for you.

Well, I looked up the Diablo Supercorsas. I can get one for the front, but they don't come in a 130/70-17 rear size... the closest is a 150/70-17... not sure that I want to wedge a 2 cm wider tire onto the existing rim and jack up the intended profile. (of course I don't know what the rear rim size is... it might fit) Also, not sure if it would take a Z-rated tire to warm up too long on this bike. And the Dragon Supercorsas don't have the correct sizes.

So that essentially leaves me to choose between Pirelli Sport Demons and Michelin Pilot Activ. The Michelins seem to be more of a sport touring tire to replace older bikes street tires. The Pirellis seem to be more of a sporty tire. So what do yall think between these two? Am I correct?

Have you considered going to a 120 sized tire in the rear? It will make the bike even quicker handling and open up a lot more options.

These are questions that I am curious as well. Never had the privledge to ride a motard. so setup and tires or the demands are new to me just yet. but for a street tire, the pirelli demon is pretty good. I was just thinking that a stiff carcass tire would prove beneficial in a power slide is all.

I cant see going to a 120. This thing already steers FAST! I am thinking of going to a 140 or 150 rear. The Yamaha WR250X comes stock with 140. My bike comes stock with a 4" rear rim, which would be too big for a 120, and according to some sites this is the upper limit for even the 130 (3-4" rim recommendations).

So maybe the Sport Demon 110 up front and the 140 or 150 in the rear.
