you can test the stator as well.. its nominally going to make between 40-70 volts AC. not DC...its wound in a 3 phase configuration, meaning theres 3 coils tied together with a common, and 3 "hots" coming out, goingto your regulator. you may be able to find the exact voltage on the net or in a buddys service manual, or go to the stealership and get the numbers from the tech there. they usually look it up for ya. there will be a tolerance to that number. there may be a 20 volt swing. also make sure you get the RPM at which to test this voltage. its usually around 2000 rpm, but your bike may differ. thats a good number tho. off the bat without any info, i'd test for 48 VAC (at least) at 2000rpm on all the wires. you'll get a reduced number on one of the leads, and the other 2 will be phase outputs to the regulator/rectifier unit.

good luck !!

quick question, i'm second guessing the stator, only because i hav a feeling if it was going out that it would be constantly affecting the electrical, it only happened when i was riding and coming to a stop with the revs low that it started to cut off, revved it up good and everything was fine, rode back home without any issues, next day it started up began to cut a little again, 10 seconds of getting the revs up and it worked fine again... i'm almost thinking it is the battery... thoughts?

thanks for the replies!

Does a stator work like an alternator???? If it does if it starts to go out it can be putting out to low of a voltage on lower rev's. And when it rev's up the volts come back to normal. On my car thats what happened the Battery light would be on under 1200rpms then by the 4 day i had to go over 3k rpms to make the light go off. The Alternator wasn't putting enough volts out at the lower rpms.

I would replace the stator and battery.

I might have to replace my battery also so don't feel bad. My bike sat for 3 weeks and when I started it last Saturday it turned over really slowly. I rode it for 15min and parked it. Well I went to start it today 1 week later and it fired right up so the battery got charged enough i guess. I will start the bike every week now and let it run for a few min now.
