Default Speedometer way off....

My wife was following me and said I was going slow as heck. My speedo said about 58mph and she said I was going about 50-53mph. Now I know why so many people pass me up on the way to work, speedlimit is 50mph and I would go about 53 so I was actually under 50mph. Is there a way to adjust how it reads? Thanks.

Oh yea it's a 04 with around 5300 miles on it.

I'll never know why they do it, but the factory speedo is 10% over it's actual speed. Many motorcycles are known for this, although most bikes are no more than around 5%. You just have to compute 10% difference in your head. i.e. 50mph=45mph, 70mph=63mph, etc.

It's pretty annoying. I wonder while I was following a buddy to work when he was on his Harley (we met up accidentally it was cool). He told me he goes about 55-60mph and I was following him my bike said 65mph to keep up and now I know he wasn't really going that fast. So I have to go about 83mph on the freeway since the limit is 75 in AZ???

Sounds about right. The newer, higher end bikes with electronic speed sensors can at least be re-calibrated with those speedo-heelers. We're forced to use our brain power to figure the real speed! lol

Yea looks like I need to lower the gearing on my Ninja so I can do some highway cruising.
