Slip on
Do you need to rejet if you just get a slip on for this bike? I am considering getting a ninja 250 as a commuter, don't give a crap about, practice dumb stuff on, leave it a forgetta bout it.
My dealer says yes but they say yes to alot of things and I say no you don't. I think they just want the extra $$$.
Or can I just cut the muffler off if I don't need to rejet. Has anyone done that yet or turned on their bike before installing the new slip.
Can't argue with the price but for those who have one how is the perfomance in comparison to other bikes. ( does it accelerate like a cruiser etc M50, C50, Vstar low end cruiser....)
I don't want it to be too slow, I am a liter bike rider but I am not getting this for performance just commuter.
Or should I just get a cruiser bike and be more comfy but would have spent the extra $$$.

RE: Slip on
Even a stock bike will respond to a jet kit. They are not ideal from the manufacturer for obvious reasons. Usually, a rejet is in order for an after-market exhaust. However, I just ordered an Area P No Limits full exhaust for mine, and the owner of the company told me a rejet was not necessary. Apparently, the '08 is a bit lean down low (For emissions testing.), but a bit rich above that. W/the full exhaust, he said he was running in the high 13's (13.8'ish, I believe.) on fuel-air ratio. He said that's a touch higher than ideal, but not a problem at all. Plus, especially on this bike, you spend so little time (If any.) at those low revs., it's inconsequential.
Bottom line: I'm putting on the full exhaust and running it w/stock jetting. If there are no problems, and it runs good (Pulls well, runs cleanly, no bad popping on decel, etc.), I'm calling it good. They show very nice gains across the rev range w/this set-up, as well (A 38% power increase at peak. And an average of 18% increase from 2500 rpm and up.). Plus, w/stock jetting, you should actually improve fuel economy,IF you ride the same as before. It all sounds good to me.
I've had 3 of the older Ninjas and a bunch of bikes, litre and open-class bikes included. You do know what the 250 is all about, I guess?...

I will try to post something up here, and your email. Make sure you check here, though. That, I can probably manage to not forget...

RE: Slip on
I've had a bunch of bikes, as well, including a Z-Rex w/full Muzzy's and Stage 2 jet kit. Anyway, I've gone slip-on and full exhaust. For the road, I usually prefer the slip-on just for simplicity. The exceptions have been on the really high performance bikes that seemed to make it worthwhile (ZX14, 'Busa, GSXR1000, Z-Rex, and, well...a couple of 250's, d-s bikes, and SuperMoto's.).
Go to the TBR site (twobros.com) and the area p site (areapnolimits.com...I think.) and they both have dyno runs on the 250, before and after exhaust. TBR has stock, slip-on, and full graphs. Area P has their full exhaut vs. stock.
Good luck. It's only money...

RE: Slip on
That's what I am going to do. Just cut off the muffler and keep a little of the corner chrome to look like an exhaust tip. Wonder how loud its going to be. Oh well, sounds what I'm looking for. Stock its so quiet.
