Default Out the door price of a new 250?

So I have been looking into getting a 250 in a few weeks after I finish my MSF. I went to the dealer today to take a look at them, I asked how much I could expect to pay out the door on an 07' 250. He told me $3,650. That seemed a little high to me. How much have you guys paid out the door for a new one? I was expecting something like $3,300 maybe. They also had a used 05' with 7k miles on it, he told me out the door for that would be $3,050. I know I could get something with less miles for less money than that. Do you think I could get a new one for cheaper? or does that sound about right?

Really depends on what your looking for. I take it from the MSF, your fresh to the bike world. I only own a 250R cause I love em. snappy turns and the easy fixings is what drew me back to them. As far as price goes, I have seen them for 2999$ USD and up, but regular price for a 07 sounds about right. There's always looking at private sellers, the local paper, even ebay. I bought my 87 for 500$ USD and was told it was a fixer-upper... boy, were they wrong! I took it to the shop, paid for a tune up, oil change, and new rear tire and I ride that classic everday i can.

It's all what your looking for. I love the Kows, and especially the 250R Ninjas, but maybe, depending on your style, taste, etc, you may like soommething else. just make sure its a Kow, and we won't have any problems

$3600.00 out the door sounds right...that should include your taxes..tags...registration fees..everything. You should be able to ride off with it from the dealership. I am a new rider too and just purchased my bike this year. I took my MSF course (2 years ago) Problem with waiting too long is that you begin to forget things that are important to remember . So it really is a matter of time and price. I would NOT go new...WHY? I bought a 97' NINJA 250 2 weeks ago. On the 4th day, I took it out, leaned into the turn, riding slow...(which of course you know, you have to counterturn) and I dropped the bike. I scratched up the bike alittle, and broke a bracket. If it was a new bike that I was still making payments on, I would have been pissed. So...you don't think your gonna drop? Everyone drops!!! Even people who have been riding for years drop too.And it's ok, just be prepared for it. Anyways,I found my bike on EBAY. It was a great find.....but you need to have alot of patience, and know what your looking for. For example, I was intentionally looking for a NINJA 250 and 500 with low mileage.None of that 10,000 mile bikes, bikes that have less then 7K is good. I would definately try for local ebayer so that you can see the bike before you buy it.
if you have any question on howI did it,write me.
good luck

Yeah I have been looking around for some used ones to maybe save a few hundred that I could put towards riding gear. I just liked the idea of getting a new one so that I don't have to worry about a bike with a bad history that i'm not told about. Also I would have a warrantee. If I could get it for $3300 out the door, not making any payments, this is in cash. I would probably go new, but the extra 300 bucks... I don't know maybe then Iwould rather go used. I still have a few weeks before I will even have my liscence... and I still have to sell my car first. So I have some time. I guess I will just keep looking for a nice used one, or maybe see if I can work out a deal with them.

Had my 07 250 for about 6 months and 3500 is just about right I think I paid 3400 out the door for mine.

Nils, you have a good point about buying new to avoid fixing other people's mistakes. By general observations, many riders seem to neglect all the routine maintenance procedures a bike requires. Especially "beginner bikes", and other low cost bikes are left to fend for themselves due to people not caring enough to keep them working well.

And yes, $3,400 ~$3,700 is pretty average for the 250R

Also, I had been in there a few weeks earlier just to look around and a different guy told me the 250's were $2,999. This guy told me it is $3199 so maybe he was just trying to get a little more money out of me? I may be wrong but shouldn't the 2008 models be arriving soon? Maybe if I wait just a little longer they would give me a decent deal on an 07 when they got the 08's in

Depends on the dealer too. THey start with the MSRP and then add to it. So if Kawasaki's website says 3299 MSRP, add in tax, tags, regerstation, and extras. The dealer down the street from me has a few 07s left, and each is priced at about 3500. and they offered me a good 2100 for my 87 last night, btw. As long as I make it back to stck with the rear fender. See, ya never know. Bikes are different from autos with depreciation value.

The '08s won't be around until August or September. It was the same with the '07s.

Here is a spreadsheet of the research I did for 250's in all different years. This should help you get an Idea of how much people were willing to pay: (print it out...it will probably be easier to see)
