Welcome to the forums Ron...That's a good name!!
If you are wanting to do a lot of hiway touring, the 250 is a tad on the small side...especially going into the mountains. If the wind is whipping around, you are going to be fighting that thing pretty hard...The ninja 250 is an awesome bike, great commutor, great biginner bike, awesome fuel mileage....but for touring, something a little bigger would prob be a better bet for you. Look at all the "touring bikes " out there...Goldwing, electra glide, etc, those big dogs are big for reasons....Power on the hills, wind resistance, safety, road noise, comfort, etc..
Just my .02...GL man, let us know what you get, or anything else you need!!

For touring the Concours is awesome (so I'm told!) My dad has one and has many long trips with it. Very comfortable, good looking bike. The 500 is not bad, but there isn't a whole lot of wind protection - so I'm not sure how it would be for touring. But then again, its only my second year on the 500 and my longest trip was 200 kms - I found it not too bad.
I have heard that the new 650R is pretty decent for touring.
Best piece of advice that I can give - get something that you are comfortable with! Good luck and keep us posted on what you decide on! Welcome to the forums!
