New Exhaust / New Jet Kit???
My brother is a mechanic and has done a lot of exhaust changes and he said that with a new bike and a new exhaust, we would not need a brand new kit because they come from the factory running real rich. On an older bike we would need a new kit though. Also, he said that if we wanted to get a little more horse out of it which is not much to begin with, 5-10hp, we would need a new intake for a new exhaust. The parts department will always tell you that you need a new jet kit, but for a new bike you can look at the spark plugs and tell if you are going to need a kit, so don't buy it yet. Just swap out the exhaust and intake and then after checking the spark plugs and also see if it is running sluggish. If the spark plugs look good and it is not bogging down then run the hell out of it. If the plugs look real dirty or have a lot of white on them and it starts to run sluggish, purchase the kit, but a new bike should not need a new kit. The kits are more for the larger engines like the 1000 and up, 1100 etc...and with some wear and tear on them.

Was there a question in there somewhere? Jetkit's definitely are not for literbikes and up, are you talking about putting the same size jets back in? Maybe I don't understand the post...

RE: New Exhaust / New Jet Kit???
I've had my Area P full exhaust on for the last 1500, or so, miles w/the stock jetting. I fear no problems in the long run, but I do feel certain it would run a bit stronger/sharper w/a rejet. The guys at Area P say the bike runs a little lean down low, to a bit rich up top w/their exhaust mounted. The jetting is off a bit down low, but nothing problematic. It's very easy to work around w/minimal effort. I'll probably shim the needles and adjust the fuel/air screws, once I have a reason to get in there.
