I heard about someone drilling holes into the muffler.

Not sure, DO NOT START DRILLING HOLES LOL

Exactly. Leave the stock can alone and spend some money on an aftermarket slip on. Go to www.newenough.com (hard parts section) and buy a TBR aluminum slip on for $327 and save the stock can in case you want to sell the bike in stock condition later. That's what I've done.

I've tried the "stock conversion" on a few bikes. I have never found it satisfactory. Besides, if you need/want the stock exhaust back on, you're in for more money replacing it. Get an aftermarket can, would be my vote. You'll be much happier w/the looks, sound, weight, and performance, I suspect. Not to mention still having the original exhaust available.

This bike, as with all stock bikes now are, is prettyquiet. If you don't want to spend another grand for an exhaustsystem them by all means drill holes. I got mine to sound adequate enough now so people can hear a bike is around. I am not interested in spending a couple hundred $$$ on a bike that costs $3499 for a slip on exhaust. That means that exhaust will cost you a fifth or seventh of the total cost of the bike. Ehey to each theirown.

butdrilling the holes is easy and gets you a louder sound without effecting anything.

You can do this without it affecting the backpressure. Take the end cap off. The hex bolts just hold the end cap. You will see the exit tube. Cut around it. It sticks to the 1st baffle wall that you see. You have to break it loose and pull it out. I used a dowl rod to break it loose. Only problem is it won't slide ride out. I had to put a vise grip on the rod and hammer it out. Once out it opens it up quite a bit.

I then drilled more holes to my satisfaction. There are videos of this on Youtube. Not on a 08 ninja 250 but there are several videos of stock exhaust mods. One of them is on a older ninja 250 and there are other bikes and it will give you an idea of what to do.

You are basically freeing up the jumbled routing of gases. Look at a diagram of bike mufflers and you will understand what needs to be done.

I like the sound. I just played with it some more today and added some more holes. I have done this with other bikes. There is a video of how to do this on a Suzuki C-50. I have done this to my C-50 and it sounds good. Not bad for a free bee.

I am thinking about just cutting off the can completely but I think it may be too loud. It sounds way better than stock but not quite as good as an aftermarket can. But like I said not bad for a free bee.
