Default Looking at the new 250R

Hey, I am new to motorcycles. I am currently driving an 06 Acura TL (car for anyone who doesn't know ).

I am looking to get a 250R, and after reading a lot of these threads, I have come to a conclusion on the Ninja.

Now, any advice would be great.

I am 19, weigh ~~ 130 lbs, and stand 5'10.

I am not looking to get a bike to race Porches on the street, just a bike to get from here to there with a little fun in between. More

of an everyday ride than a ride to fulfill my enthusiastic side.

Obviously a 250 would be the choice for most of the members on this forum(specifically the 250 section) but is there anything I

should know before I go out and throw out 3500 for the bike?

Yea it will cost more then 3500 with tax and dealerPDI or Freight.........(jokingingly saying)

It's a great bike and I love my 04 250. Has enough get up and go to get out of the way.
Before going out and buying Iwould take the MSF course and get you MC licence. A newbike for your 1st one isn't allways thesmartest because a lot of people drop there 1st bike. Allthough I have put a little over 5k on mine and havn't dropped it yet.
But a lot of people do.

I was told that the ninja 250 does 0-60 in 5.0 sec? Is this true, because I don't see a 250 being more than a big scooter. I am going to buy one, but I expect the worst, and that I will be like those scooters that people ride around on..

Well thanks...is it the same to get a motorcycle license as it is to get a drivers license?

Hit the DMV, get the permit, take the test, take the photo?

And for the MCS course, are we talking a 2 week course? One Saturday?

Well stated, and I agree. IF you plan on buying a new bike as your first, this is the best bike for you hands down. There's a little saying in the bike world that goes like this..."There are two kinds of riders; those that have dropped their bike, and there are those that will..."

With that said, I wouldn't blame you for picking one of these up. It's such a great deal.

Thanks dave,

Do they offer good financing on these bikes? If not, I will try and work out the numbers to buy it cash... now around me sales tax is 6.5% so roughly 3500 + (3500x6.5) = 3727.5. Someone brought up the "PDI or freight" charges... is that something I don't know about? Or is it just like the destination fee like cars?

The dealership has to partially assemble the bike when it arrives. It comes in a box and they have to attach the handle bars, wheels, clutch/brake lines, etc. and they charge you for it. Could be anywhere from $500-$1500. This in reality is dealer mark up.

Don't forget you have to pay title and reg. The finance guy at the end is the worst. They'll try to sell you everything under the sun like 5 year warranties, a plan where you get $5000 towards a new bike if yours gets stolen or totalled, gap insurance (I recommend that one), blah blah. If you've ever bought a new car you know the finance guy at the end is the worst, and that's who you will have to do the most negociating with. Be prepared and good luck!

One more thing, Kawasaki is offering a financing deal til the end of March. When you finance through them, it's basically a revolving credit card. The deal I got was $49/mo for the first 2 years at 8%. After the 2 year period, it goes up to 12%. Basically anything I pay over the $49 a month goes towards the princible of the loan. After 2 years, the remainder of the loan get charged 12%. There is no 'end term' on a bike loan like there is with a car.

Don't forget to budget $500-1000 for gear. $150-200 for the MSF course, and insurance, registration, etc.

you can get all the "starter" gear you need for under 300. but as always more coverage and better gear costs money. check out the sparx helmets - high quality at budget prices, made by KBC.
