Heres my story....I am 5'4 120lbs. My first bike was a honda cbr600 which i was peer pressured into buying with no riding experience whatsoever..I spent about 3 weeks learning how to ride on that bike and gave up since it was way too big for me...abouta month ago i bought a 07 250R and have learned so much from this easy to ride bike...I would definitely choose the 250 if this is gonna be your first bike...

well my big problem is the balance issue
though for motivation to force myself to learn,
without owing my own bike...

i feel that if i can learn on the 600, i will have that much more control of the 250.
tell me if im wrong. we all know i have been before.

i haven't had a problem learning on my 600 - but i'm 6'4 so size isn't an issue - just throttle control

yeah my buddy spooked me good to not get whisky throttle.
that would be a disaster.
but im getting this balance thing down pretty well.
once that is outta the way. ill figure out some gear to rpm crap for shifting and
so on and so forth.

cool thing about the 600's is that if you are traveling within the speed limit you can be in almost ANY gear
1st gear will get me to 70-75 - and the highest speedlimit in MD is 65. 6th doesn't like going bellow 40.

my point being you can just use 1st to get moving and put around the parking lot - but the rest of the time if you stay in the higher gears you have less power, less chance of making a mistake.

Youll notice some gearing differences between the 250 and 600. First on the 250 is pretty short, not good to pull up to whatever in first. Second is fun though.
The thrill that I get on the 250 that I dont get on the kat is wringing its neck WOT and running the rpms up to 11K+ before a shift. On the Kat if you do that your doing 75 before you even realize it in 1st or 2nd gear and then the funs over you have to reel it back in.

I like spanking the 250 through all the gears it likes it too.
