Default lookin at a 250R

wondering if anyone had any advice for a first time buyer of
the sportbike way of life.

im starting completely green,
no helmet or anything yet.

i figured the 250 was a good start so i dont become overwhelmed with something
like a 600.

basically any advice on this bike would be great.
thanks.

most people will say that if you get a 250 get a used one because you'll be reselling it in 6 months to upgrade.

they claim a 500 to be a good starter bike that won't get old so fast.

I chose to just get the 600 and use caution. but you really have to know yourself and how muhc restraint you have.

Make sure not to cheap out on good riding protection. Get a good jacket, gloves, boots, pants, and the best helmet you can afford. Your body is still much more important than the bike you ride no matter how cheap or expensive it is.

Start out real slow, and AWAY from traffic or parked cars. If you're going to have an accident, the first couple of rides will be the most risky. If you make it past that point without wrecking, you should be fine.

oh trust me,
ill find a way to fall off this thing
20 years of hockey will help with balance tho
and 5 years of driving a 5 speed will help with the shifting aspect.
im not terrified,
but i dont own the bike yet.

as for the 500 and 600cc bikes.
ill be content with the 250 for a while im sure.
im not looking to race, im looking to have a good time.

I haven't fallen yet, and have been riding for a while now. Just be careful and alert. Most importantly, don't be a showoff with your bike. Those people are the most likely to wreck.

Oh, before I leave for work, check out motorcycle wrecks on youtube. I watched them for several hours before buying my first bike. It will really make you think before trying anything "dumb" lol

Also, take the MSF safety course. It will give you a great foundation of beginner's skills to build on.

That 250 will haul the mail better than most people think once you learn how to do it. Just take it easy at first.

Have fun and be safe.

I have 112 miles on my '07 250r and love it! It's a great starter bike, engine is bulletproof, very quick when you get the shifting down, and very forgiving for a beginner (which I am also). I chose to go with new despite the depreciation factor because I've never had a bike and didn't know what problems to look for in a used bike. It's great to just jump on it and it works instead of trying to fix stuff at the start. JMHO.
