hola
Hello, i've been lurking around here for a while and just decided to join today. Last week i picked up a 2005 250 with 1400 miles on it for a really good price. I'm trying to figure out if the previous owners had the regular service done to it, and if not, what do I need to have done? How often should I take it into the shop or whatever. I always seem to have horrible luck with my cars, so I'm hoping that bad luck won't transfer over to my bike - i want this thing to last!
I'm loving the bike though and already wanting to get a 600cc for longer rides. I just hate seeing the tach so high when I'm cruisin on the freeway....

RE: hola
hello and welcome to the party. i'd say as long as your sure it had a 500 mile checkup you should be good for a couple thousand more miles. if the prev. owner doesnt have docs or records of when he had it in and what done, it would be a good idea to have a mechanic check out some major things for you, or even just test ride it and have checked what he recoommends to have done.

I paid $2000 for the bike, helmet and the XL joe rocket tank bag. He also put some after market front turn signals on the bike, which don't stick out like the stock ones. Looks pretty slick.
How are these bikes for passengers?
Cyndia, that seems like a grand deal. congrats.
I was looking on craigslist for bikes and I swear there were people with late 90s 250 Ninjas with 8k-13k miles on it trying to sell them for 2000. I think that's ridiculous.
Do any of you 250 riders ever get tired of this little guy? I'm thinking in a year or so I might go out and buy a new ZX-6R....thoughts?

Weird, seeing all this "when should I take it to a shop" questions. I have an 1987, 23k+ miles, and do almost all the work on it by the manuals. If you have a good set of tools and know how, then theres your thing. Go to ebay and buy a manual for your bike, no matter what year, or if you work on it yourself or not. Always a good thing to have.
if your going to learn more about your own bike by beaing a backyard mechanic, I suggest making sure that the bike is not your main means of transport, and that you have patience with your bike and yourself.
