Default Going up in gears while not moving?????

Ok went and looked at a Ninja 250 last night. It was dropped on the right side 1 time. So there were some scratches on the fairing, handle bar, and front brake lever. The bike sounded great while running and everything worked except for the front turn signals.

The 1 question I have though is when the bike was just sitting there idling if you pulled in the clutch and tried to go into 2nd it wouldn't. So I asked if she could ride it down the street since I just passed the MSF i didn't want to take it out and risk anything. She did and she went all the way to 4th gear. So it goes through the gears just fine but is it supposed to when it's at a stop with the clutch pulled in?

I'm going to buy the bike tonite for $1200 it's a yellow 04 with 4772 miles on it.

Don't worry about it. Most bikes have a problem shifting up or down while at standstill. You can usually get it to shift without moving by letting the clutch out very slightly just to the friction point while shifting the lever. This comes in handy if you have to stop quickly, and still need to shift down into first.

Ummm, it should go all the way to 6 gears, and yes, its cool to do this. I can sit there and hold the clutch lever in and cycle through the gears. Just don't let the clutch out whil in a gear. Remeber if your lost, click it all the way down and one up. theres your neutral.

Price aint too bad either, but i hate yeller.

Yea I don't like yellow but I can't beat the price.

The shift lever was bent in a little but it still fuctions fine I will bend it back ASAP.

The first thing I do is going to change the oil, filter, and lube the chain. So I know everything is fresh and good to go.

Why is the shifter bent if they dropped it on the right side?

If it fell maybe no internal damage but if somebody stomped on it hard enough to bend the shifter, the shift forks can be bent.

Kawasaki's have a great little device called a neutral finder. If you are in 1st gear when stopped, when you lift on the shifter, you will only go into neutral.

True mine won't go into second either unless it's I am riding down the street.

Good for you...you scored a good bike at a great price.

Enjoy...
