Fender Elim kit and cowl showed up today
The cowl showed up first and I immediately went to install, as I feared, it was really loose. I could pop it off from the front without the key, and it wobbled from side to side. The stock seat fit so well! What to do...
I took the stock bracket off to see how it would fit on the cowl.
Close, but the holes didn't exactly match up. No problem, I just drilled it out a little bit:
Tested it out and it latched down as well as the stock one did, but it still wobbled, bad. No problem, I used the rubber plugs that came with the cowl and mounted them with some adhesive facing upwards:
Success! Latches down nice and tight, and doesn't wiggle around at all!
As soon as I was done with this, the UPS man drops by with the Competition Werkes fender elim kit, so I called into work lol
It is as much of a pain in the *** as everyone says it is. If I had to do it again, I probably wouldn't. A few things they don't mention in the instructions:
You have to drill out 4 pop rivets that hold the metal tie down bars to the plastic underside before you can cut the fender.
Cut your turn signal connector wires to get them out. Way, WAY easier this way. Otherwise you have to fish the cable all the way through the bike. While you're at it, run the wires a bit longer with extra wire. Makes reinstall much easier.
Use a hacksaw to get most of the fender off, then heat up the rest with a hair dryer and use a razor blade for detailing. Screw sandpaper, I knicked up some parts that I wish I hadn't trying to use it.
It's not perfect by any means, you can see some of the cut away area if you look close, but you pretty much have to be under the bike to notice. Overall I'm happy, happy I'm done with this frustrating project. Here are some pics:
Haxxored the fender:

RE: Fender Elim kit and cowl showed up today
Haha![8D] Most of the time I am up this late. But I've been trying to go to sleep earlier than I usually do. That means I shouldn't be on KF right now. lol
