Corbin Seat for 2K8 Ninja 250 - Review
Received the Corbin seats for our 2 bikes yesterday (after 5 weeks!). Here's my honest take:
After much reading of reviews; and my butt & back feeling it (after only 30 minutes of riding);
my son & I decided to spend the $ to get these babies.
The cost on these was $228 each (shipped) - from JC Motors. They DID tell me that it would be 4 weeks.
Soooo, they finally arrived. I felt like the kid opening his Red Rider BB Gun at Xmas. I was immediately impressed with the visible quality of work (especially when you compare to the factory-stapled vinyl/plastic). Removed the factory seats; went to install the Corbins; only to find that the mounting holes did not line up. And I don't mean just a little bit. They were almost 1/4" to far forward. Luckily the mounting brackets had plenty of room to be moved - but it makes me wonder about their quality control (both seats were off the same amount); what are they fitting these seats to (at Corbin).
So, that problem fixed; new seats installed - time to test ride!
As I'm installing them I am constantly comparing them to the factory seats. The first thing I noticed was the shape. The Corbins are round on the back end - where the factory seats have angled corners (on the back side). I like the factory shape better. The Corbins don't (visually) seem any thicker, but hey FEEL thicker - denser. Sitting on the seat; it felt very firm with a definite ridge (rounded corner) on each side (each thigh area). I'm thinking "this is NOT going to be very comfortable - I've just blown $230 bucks!" Off we go - rode for about 45 minutes. And (after already having resigned myself to the mistake I'd made in this purchase) to my surprise. I was pleased. There must really be something to Corbins (patented) foam. That ridge (I felt) seemed to melt away - and provided the extra comfort needed (in that area). I tried all positions during the ride (including tucking) with positive results. Best of all I don't seem to be sliding into the "ball-smashing" tank. All-in-all I would give the Corbin seat for the 2K8 Ninja 250 a B+. Time will tell whether they are worth the price tag.
