Default Cold Starting Trouble

Hello everyone,
I am a new 08" 250r owner, my back is stored in my backyard for the winter under a dowco cover. I recently threw some stabil in the tank now when I start the bike with the choke at full it starts but when i return the choke to norm the bike shuts off! I dont know what could be the problem. I have left the bike running at full choke for a while it doesnt go pass 4k idle, as soon as the choke is turned back to norm the bike shuts off.

Also is the choke is at full with the bike revving at 4k and I hit the throttle the rpms dipp down as if the bike is going to shut off. If anyone can point me in the right direction it will be great.

I am cringing with your statement. 4k rpm choked on a cold engine. Maybe your "recent" stabil use was abit too late? You may want to check your plugs for a reading and go from there. Good luck with that,

I ride my bike in the cold all winter, and have found that it needs to be rode while partially choked until it warms up. A couple miles down the road it will be fine.

Draining the tank now is abit too late. Do some cleaning.

Ride it until it warms up. If it still doesn't idle as it did before, the idle jets are probably (partially) clogged. You will need to remove the carburetors and clean them.

On using the choke: "It is not an on/off switch." <- repeat that. Choke it only enough to get it started and maintaining reasonable RPM. Sometimes full choke, other times only a little is needed when starting.

I have had the same issue with my 09 - It hates cold starting!!! This winter I stored mine a new barn (not heated but clean and covered) with stabiliser in the tank from the beginning. I did not have trouble starting the bike but like you as soon as I take the choke off it dies. I rode it Yesterday for about 45 minutes and even by the end of the ride it would shut off any time I stopped at a stop sign unless I kept the throttle wound up a little!

I'm taking mine in for its first service in a few days so hopefully they can tell me what the issue is.

I have already found this bike to be a VERY cold blooded bike but this is a bit much!
