Hey I'm new to all this and I really wantthe 2008 250r, but only one things holding me back.

The new style 250 looks really cool, but the back tire looks totally out of place..it looks like im riding a bicycle. Can I widen the back rim? Buy a wider rim? Keep the same rim, but buy a larger tire?

I know the 2008 has a 130mm 17in wheel, and I would be happy with 160mm in back.

What do you suggest I do?

 

buy the bike and enjoy it, the back tire is fine

the older body style was actually meant to run on a 120, which to many that track this bike prefer

Don't worry about the rear tire because if your buddies riding the 600's and 1000's don't respect the 250 as the AWESOME bike that it is and $1000's less than theirs, the tire won't matter. My buddy use to give me a hard time also with his Harley 1200, until I left him at the stoplight. Sure he could pass me on the interstate, but in town and on a twisting back road I own him! what about the chicks thou all they notice is shiny paint, loud motor and fat tires

I can deal with the first too, but would I have to modify the swing arm or brakes or anything if i widened up the back wheel?

 

So im assuming your buying the bike so you get attention? Don't hurt yourself. Well the back tire that is. If you think a bigger tire will make you get more attention, then just buy one and see if it fits, im sure a bike shop can help you spend money

 

honestky it would propbably be too much work. first thing the new 08 are too new and there are no mod available yet then there is the swingarm, you wouls have to loose it and make a custom one and them get new rims to acomodate a 160 and then figure out how to correctly align the drive gear so that you wont snap it, just my .02

 

There is an AFM racing class. They use the same size tire and do just fine racing the bike.

 

My advice is to just leave it alone. If you want to look like you are riding a 600 to impress some chick, then buy a 600.
