Buying a new bike

Buying a new bike
I sold my Yamaha Vino 125 today, kind of exciting but she will be missed.
I was planning on upgrade to either a 09 250r or a SV650.
The new 08-09's look nice and are supposed to be faster. Do they perform nicely or do people get sick of the 250?
Remember I am coming off a scooter so the bike will be nice I'm sure, and I've ridden an old 250R a few years back. Thought it was pretty good.
How much are these selling for out the door. I am planning on purchasing one of the two bikes on Thursday because they are having a big sale.
I should note that I am 5'6 and 215 lbs and still losing lbs. LOL.
The LTD 500 is a consideration.

i recently purchased a 09 special edition 250r and i payed about 6600 with all the warrantys but i could have bought it for 4200 out of the door. I just took it in for its first service and i am loving it althought i wish i had a bit more power but i just have to remember that i am will hone my skills with a 250 and eventually it will become my track bike.

Tough call but welcome to KF. The SV has entries for track days if you chose that one, where the EX250 is a lame duck. I like the EX but not for anything other than the streets. So you need to choose. The LTD is abit on the learning curve as well. You need to chose how you ride and how it will fit your riding needs.

I sat on a 250r in blue color, nice bike. The fit and finish is okay at best, however you get what you pay for. I have a good feeling I am going to pick this sucker up. The red color was not as nice, perhaps if I brought them outside the red might look nicer. The blue one was win!
The bike fit me very well since I am short and I felt very comfortable on it.

For the street, the 250 will be safer while you learn, but more importantly, it'll make you work harder and encourage you to test the limits of both the bike and you abilities as they develop.
You'll learn more, learn it better, and learn it faster than on a bigger bike, and there's plenty of power for all but long highway or 2-up use as long as you put the effort in to learn how to liberate it.
On the track the arguments are less clear cut.
One common argument against 250s is that you'll soon get bored. The only people who get bored with them are the ones who haven't learned to ride properly.
