Default breaking in the 250 ninja??

Just got my new 250 ninjayesterday andmy question is when I was looking over the owners manual it said for the first 600 miles not to go over the 4000 rpms. Didn't think much about it untill I started to ride it and found out that would be about 30-35 mph so how long does everybody go by this rule? I live out in the country andits hard to go that slow when everyone else is flying at about 55 and above..

Thanks for any help mitch

Loosely follow the 4k limit for about 5-10 miles. After that, progressively increase your RPM's a little at a time. By 100 miles, ride it normally. The first 20 miles will be the most important miles of your engine break-in. Keep the rides fairly short. Ride the bike long enough to completely warm up, and always allow it to cool down completely in between runs.

Also change your oil before you hit the first 100 miles. There will be some nasty metal flakes floating around in the break-in oil you don't want circulating through the engine for too long.

Here's a link to another theory in breaking in bikes. It's worth checking out even if you don't agree with the methods. The way he goes into detail about why this method works better actually makes sense.

ya know, my dad is an engine builder and when i rebuilt my pickups engine in high school he told me to "break it in like i was going to drive it". I did that and the engine is still good to go to this day 230K miles later. Honestly i took it a bit easy on my bike for the first 200miles. After that i just kept the RPMs below 7K. Realy the most critical part is letting it warm up and letting it idle down after riding for a few mins.

I followed the manual for the most part. but most of my riding is on base where the speed limit is 30mph.

I normally ride mine easy for about 100 miles. Change the oil and ride it, take iteasy and dont go crazy on the rpm's. I change my oils after 100 mile then at 300 miles and have never had any issues with any of my bikes.
