Default Brake Disc Width

Hey everyone, I'm new....

... the front brakes on my 03 are weak and squeeky so I'm getting some new pad's. The rotor looks good but I just want to check the width with my dial caliper to make sure I'm within the manufacturer's reason. Anyone know what it should be? And where the hell can I find a good service manual that doesn't cost a ton???

BTW, I'm thinking about purchasing SBS brake pads from www.kneedraggers.com, any other recommendations?

Welcome Mott Power to KF
I use SBS pads on my 7 and have had good luck with them. Trying out the Vesrah pads on the 10, so far so good.
I prefer the factory manuals

I couldn't find the spec on the 250's rotor, but try checking on the rotor itself. It is possible that the wear limits are stamped on the rotor.

Thanks guys, I checked the rotor like you said and it states "4.5 mm". Converted to inches is .177... and on. My reading was .193 inches, so yeah... I guess I'm good. I think I'll be going with the SBS pads as well, good to hear someone likes them.

BTW, where can I get a factory service manual? I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING, and it's starting to irritate me [:@]

Awesome!

I haven't had good luck either finding a service manual for late model 250s. I think going through Kawasaki might be the only way to get a manual. The only thing I've seen in terms of aftermarket manuals is on a CD that some seller off ebay always has for auction.

ninja 250 riders club is a VERY helpful site in terms of working on your 250. You can get a lot of info on this site.

I bet the supplement is what covers the newer 250's. I know I've seen that main service manual before, but I don't think it covered any of the newer models.

Thanks again guys, just ordered EBC pads instead as well as that manual just posted. Hopefully I'll get it all by the end of the week and can fix those shisty pads by this coming weekend.

I haven't done this myself yet, but replacing the stock brake lines with steel braided lines can help your brakes feel less spongy.

I put the EBC pads on my 750, and they work great! You shouldn't have any problems with them.

Awesomeness. I heard good things about the EBC's so it's nice to hear a first hand opinion.

I would like to get a braided SS line, but I can't seem to find anything for the 250.
