Default Anybody lowered a 250?

My girlfriend is learning to ride her new/used 250. She passed the MSF course on a cruiser, but wanted a sportbike. Since it's taller and has a higher center of gravity, she's dumped it a few times at standstill - mainly 'cuz she's on her tip-toes and doesn't have much strength if it starts to fall. She got a great attitude and keeps jumping back on, but I don't want her to get discouraged, or have to worry about this as she progresses past the parking lot...

Has anyone lowered their 250? I'm guessing about 2 inches lower would be perfect.
So far, I've only found one back end lowering kit for about $300, I've heard that Corbin seats sit a little lower, and I know the front should be lowered the same as the rear.

Any recommendations???

Thanks

Check this site out it explains how to remove the foam and insert a gel pad. We did this to my wifes bike and put on a 120/80 rear tire it helped a great deal before all she could do was tiptoe on her 250 and now she puts 3/4 of her foot on the ground. http://www.itrocks.com/motorcycles/gel_seat.htm

Bat, thanks for the post - really great article. I'll have to get a bit crafty as the 250 seat is a 2 level, 2 person seat, but I think with a little imagination and a lotta luck, it could come out functional and not too bad looking. Plus, my girlfriend will think I'm...like...smart'n'stuff.

Now that is funny!!!!! Hope you're able to get it lowered for her, if you get a chance, you should do a write up with pics for the do it yourself section......it might help out some other folks. Keep us posted.

I didnt think anyone would have to lower a 250 as they sit pretty low already. Just how tall is she?

She was set on a small sportbike as opposed to the cruisers (which would have been lower, and was what she took the course on). It definitely sits higher and has a higher center of gravity.

She's about 5'3" and built a little like a dachshund (ok, that didn't come out right at all.....a really cut one......nevermind). She can touch both feet on her tip-toes. She's fine once she's riding, but if she comes to a stop to quickly and the bike starts to lean, she doesn't have the footing/strength to stop the momentum, and it falls over. I do believe that much of the problem will go away with practice and confidence. However. she never learned to use a clutch before, so that motion is new to her. Matched with learning to brake smoothly, having her feet flat on the ground would be one less thing she worries about.

Regardless of the difficulties, she's still having fun.
