thanx for your reply...It really helped! Correct me if I'm wrong. Taking the basic training course will give you a completion card which then all you have to do is pass a road test or something and then go to the Secretary of State and get your license? anywayz thanx a lot I really want that 500!!! I CAN'T WAIT TO RIDE!!!!!!! THANX again!!

The MSF course qualifies as the road test, so you just take the card to the DMV to get your license. You don't need to take a DMV road test.

I would have to agree that if you do a lot of interstate traveling, get the 500. Riding the 250 on the highway is really abusive on a person. (trust me) It's just not made for major long-haul traveling. The 250 is best suited as a city bike.

awesome! thanx! I like what I hear about the 500 better than the 250. I'm gonna want to ride on the Interstate and I'm assuming the 500 handles better...isn't blown around as much. I saw that the new ones are priced around 5000. What price range do you guys think i'm lookin at for a used 2003-2006? I also think that If I get the 500 I'll be happy with it for a few years wheras the 250 I'm gonna get bored! Not cool! But i'm not gonna be one of those people who drives with no respect for the lives of others!! Whats the MSF course like? How do you sign up for it and stuff? Do you have to use your own bike, or do they have one? I would like to get my license pretty soon so if someone could give me the details on how to do that, thad be great!
Fair warning - the 500 does get blown around a bit. All you have to do is tuck in some and it makes it easier! It used to really freak me out at first, to the point that I didn't take the bike out on really windy days! Now I'm used to it and it doesn't really bother me anymore.

Geez, I remember what it was like to be in your shoes!!! So exciting!

thanks again guys: another question for ya. What's the life span on a 500? If I were to get like an 02' in 2007 in good condition would it still most likely last for a few years or no? Just curious on long an older one would last. thanx.

Life span on the bike, if you take care of it, can do 100,000 with no problems. I had on old bike I had over 100,000 miles on, and a friend with way more than that. My ZX10 has over 40,000 on her now and no probs at all. The 500, if I remember right in previous posts, had no problems at all exceeding the 50,000 mile mark with ease...

The two people that owned my 500 prior to me getting it - took very good care of it. They did all required maintenance at around the proper times, they didn't drive it overly hard (at least that is what I was told!). Anyways, mine currently has over 32,000 kms on it (which would be approx 20,000 miles) - everything is going great so far. Other than change the oil and tighten the chain - I have not had to do anything with it. I do need to get her in for a valve adjustment sometime soon and will need new brakes and tires in the near future as well.

I have no worries about mine lasting.......as long as you can find one that has been looked after - you should have no problems with it lasting (that is if you take care of it too!)
