Default 08 250R Fuel Guage Accuracy

Has anyone noticed that the fuel guage is bad off on the 250R? Even when I stand the bike up and fill the tank to the metal plate where the cap locks in the guage never goes to full. It is always about 1/8th below the full mark. I have also ran the bike until the guage is dead even with the Empty, which I am always at about 200 miles, and when I fill it up it never holds more than 3.8 gallons. I know the tank is supposed to be 4.8 gallons but I can never get even close to that. Has anyone ran more than about 200 miles on a tank and was the guage below the Empty mark?

The extra gallon is the reserve gas. Unless you drain your reserve dry, you won't fill up the advertised 4.8g. I don't know about the gauge issue though since I don't have the new 250R.

Do the 250s have a reserve switch or do they just use the reserve once it reaches that level?

Mine does on the bottom of the left hand side of the gas tank. Surely the new bikes also have a reserve.

The '08 250r does not have a reserve like the pre '08 models.

If they don't have a reserve it problably means when it hits the "E" you have 1 gallon of fuel left.

When it hits "E" I think it's supposed to mean "Empty" with nothing left in the tank.

That's what I am thinking. But hey that's cool. Gallon left on E. You are getting 200miles on E. Cool. I have not taken it down that far yet. I always to a 1/4 of a tank or 1/8 and then hit the gas station.

But you're right the gas meter is way off. I can never get it to read full. It only reads full when you fill it right to the metal opening and have the bike on the kickstand. Straighten it up and it reads an 1/8 low. Oh well.

I didn't know the gallon left on E bit. How true is this. Has anyone hit the E and then went on another 50 or 60 miles?

Im just making an assumtion. But it makes sense. On every car you can hit E and still drive 30 to 60 miles more.

Well, the specs say the tank is around 4.8 gallons but the most at any fillup I have been able to put in is 3.8 and that is with the needle on the E. I did find the reserve, I guess that is what it is behind the panel on the left side. You have to have a flat head screwdriver to turn it. The manual calls is a PRI or fuel tap and says it should only be used to drain the tank. The problem I have is that there must be at least 1 gallon in there. I am curious to know how far below the E it will go. I may run it a while when it gets to the E next time just to see.
