get a bike that will make you happy, plus if you want more power take the opportunity to learn on a maneagable bike and then move up

I work with alot of hardcore bike riders, i have been probing thier heads for opinions on bikes for almost a year now. One guy that i realy look up to has told me that a 250 is great if you realize its a 250. Bottom line i am talking about a cheap to own and operate vehicle that will net good millage and will be able to do shoprt highway trips. He told me the 250 ninja was probably the right bike. You just have to realize that its not going to be a speed demon but hey at 60+ mpg i think i can deal with that...

sounds like the perfect bike for you then

and if it's your first bike then it's even better from a learning standpoint than hoping onto a zx-6r

edit: hoping as in hopping

If power is a concern then I would get atleast a 500cc. If you want a practical commuter the Ninja 250 is the best way to go. I love mine allthough it does feel slow now. But thats allright I cann't beat the 75mpg average I get going to work and back. When I get another bike I am going to keep the lil 250 and still ride it to work a few days a week.

hi all, i dont mean to change the topic dylan began but i am interested in getting the 08 ninja 250 as my first street bike. ( i currently have a 07' klx 250s) i'm curious about the availability of this bike. do the ninja 250's (previous years) tend to "sell out" rather quickly? is there a common date new models arrive to dealers? i'm just not sure if trying to get it in the summer would be harder to come by, versus whenever it is suppose to be released. thanks

I personally think you cant knock it til you try one, this is like the first major break through kawi has had for the 250r. It' s like riding a pit bike, yeah sure it doesnt have the power but it's still fun to ride. I had a 250r for a couple years, it's a good learning bike, i got rid of it because I wanted more power. I have a feeling sales are going to explode on them too because they look like a real sport bike. plus you cant beat the fuel economy, I already know a few guys that are moving from their 600's to the new 250 b/c of gas prices. I think they were supposed to be out already, I already saw one of the bright yellow 08 zx6's... definately glad i have a green bike haha

The 08's are supposed to be availablesometime betweenmid-December and mid-January. I've put down a deposit on one last week. What other people think really doesn't matter since I'm the only one that will ride it.

ORIGINAL: Dylan

I am thinking about buying the new 08'. But i have people telling me that i will hate it once i get it because it has no power.
Welcome to the forums brother! Listen to some of the other members here, and not people trying to talk you out of it. I am 5-11" and weigh 240 lbs. and im gonna get the new 2008 250r to go to and from work as well as have some fun on it. Keep in mind that until about 2 months ago i had a 2005 suzuki sv650s. Please... go to the dealer sit on it as well as other bikes and see which one most fits you like a glove, then make your choice bro. Because when you are riding the bike and not the people who are talking you out of it, may get you into trouble when they cant help you if you get a bike that is too much power. Im not at all saying not to get a bigger bike, im just saying its for you so only you can know. Keep in mind that they keep value very well so if you decide you do want something bigger after a while it wont be a big deal.

Just my $0.02,

-Hawwk
