1985 454ltd sprocket sizes
hello everyone.
I am new to the forum and was wondering if anyone could help me. i have a 1985 Kawasaki 454ltd (EN450). I am wondering if there is other rear sprockets sizes for my bike. My problem is high rpm's when riding at highway speeds. I assume that when it was manufactured that the speed limit was 55 and so the bike was geared for that rpm range. Now with the speed limit at 70, it runs a little above 6000 rpm when riding. Is there another sprocket that I can buy to lower that rpm when riding? Thanks for any help I can get.

Welcome to the forum!
I can't seem to find anything for that model. You might have some luck with a cross reference guide. I would bet an EX 500 sprocket would fit. If so, ther are smaller sprockets available. Keep in mind that you would be giving up quite a bit of acceleration though. It might not be worth it. That bike was probably not intended to be a highway cruiser in the first place. Even though it has "cruiser" styling. I wouldn't think the engine has the kind of powerband needed to pull a tall gear. 6000 rpm doesn't sound that excessive for a bike. My bike redlines at 11,500 rpm and I like to cruise at about 8,500 on the highway, which puts me at about 95 mph and about 75% of the redline. I don't know where your bike redlines, but I'm sure it is much higher than 6000. If you can cruise at 70mph @6000 rpm you're doing pretty good. A taller gear might drop it to 5200-5500 or so but , like I said before, it would kill your acceleration. Hope that helps, good luck!

Welcome to the forums bjrauto00
As mentioned above, the 454 is not the greatest for high tq numbers so gearing makes it more suitable for everyday riding. You need to know where and what you want to do as in what is most important to you, then go from there.
