Default royal purple oil

I bought some Royal Purple oil and was told by a local shop it was fine to use in my KX 250. I have not had a problem with my bike all summer it's been riding great but I changed my oil and used the royal purple and went riding saturdaybike was riding good and after awhile my clutch lever start feeling different and then it started having alittle trouble getting in 1st gear still goes in gear fine just alittle harder. I took a break started up my bike and it started to smoke bad and upon pulling the clutch in and reving the bike it would rock foward so i shut the bike off. Wondering if maybe the oil has something to do with it, on the back of the oil it says for 4 cycle engines but a local shop said it was fine. Any info will help Thanks

It depends on what year your bike is. I have found if your bike has any miles on it before switching to a syn based oil the clutch plates will smoke just a short while. Switching back to a mineral base wont help now. I suggest replacing the clutch plates (stay away from EBC) and go back to using a good quality mineral oil. I use Castrol 10-40 or Shell Rotella 20-50 for the hotter summer days and change it often. Just my 2 cents
