i've been taking pics as I go along. I will probably do a full webpage with the restoration with step-by step pics....

I think I've narrowed the brake problem down to a faulty master cylinder....

This is going to be a long project, not that I didn't know that from the beginning. I got the front brake working, and now the clutch won't engagage. I push the lever, but with the bike in gear it won't move if I push it, so now I have to pull the clutch apart and see what that might be.

Anything I should look for when doing the clutch? I've replaced many clutches on cars, but none on bikes. It looks like it might be fairly straight forward, but let me know if there are any secrets I should know....

I'm hoping it isn't too major. I really need to go and get a repair manual for this thing. If I get one I'm going to scan it in and give it out for free. I think repair manuals should be free (downloadable). The manufacturers would benefit from this as people would buy more parts. It's retarded for them to charge for it.

If anyone has one for this year range (83) let me know....Maybe I could just borrow someones and scan it and get it back to them.....

That was going to be my suggestion - seems like a must have for a project like this, I have a feeling you are going to know that bike inside and out before it's all said and done. I'd check e-bay for a manual, bound to be a few there.

Actually, here ya go:

83 KX250 Shop Manual

Thanks!

You know how sometimes you are really excited about a project, and others you want to throw it out the window. I am the throwing stage right now. I got the clutch "unstuck" and put it back together. I also took the carb back apart to adjust the floats because fuel was pooring out the overflow valve on the bottom. Now the stupid thing won't start again...Ugh. I guess i'll be pulling the carb. off YET AGAIN to see if I adjusted the floats too much...

My leg is getting very cramped from kicking this thing to get it started....I think i pulled a groin muscle yesterday....now I can barely walk....

Near as I can tell its a 82 0r an 83, here is a nice picture. If you get that bike back to looking like this you will really have something. Good luck and have fun.
