Default Buying a 2001 KX250 with blown top end?

I am considering buying a 2001 KX250 in good condition, but has a blown top end. The guy says it turns (kicks) over, but has no compression. So it isn't seized up, but it doesn't have any compression. He's asking $700, but I think I can get it for $500-600. Is this worth it? Thanks in advance for any opinions.

A blown top can cost $500-800.

You'll need a top kit, ~$280 for piston, ring, gaskets and bearings. You'll also need to have the jug re-plated.

If the bottom end is junk, you'll be in for $1,000.
