93 KX250 Noisey!
I'm working on a 1993 KX250.It runs and works fine, but it's a bit noisey. (Ok, very noisey). I believe the pipe to be original (black) and the exhaust and FMF. Question: Would a new pipe improve the noisey problem? Also, since I need a spark arrestor anyway, what exhaust should I get?
I trail ride with my kids, and I love the bike. But I must do something about the noise.
Thanks,
Green26

the spark arrestor. taking those out makes the bike loads louder. you should either get a new one or replacce the slipon altogher. with a 4 stroke this improves the performance. with a 2 it does the opposite. it kills the back pressure and gives you terrible compression. so replacing the pipe/arrestor would not onlysolve the noise problem but your bike would preform better to. fmf's are the best pipes around, if you can you should get another one of them. this is a great site to get parts bikebandit.com, i use it for everything bikebandit.com

Remember that thing is a two stroke and up close they are a lot noisier than 4 strokes. If you already knew this then I apologize. If you didn't know this then there is not much you can do, although I think EMS had a picture once from the East ride that had a two stroke bike with a quiet pipe. It looked something like this.
Red indicates the normal sound damping occurring in the silencer.
Yellowindicates the release through the smaller opening of the "peak" of the exhaust pulse.
Light Blue & Blue indicate the path the majority of the exhaust takes through the snorkel for further sound damping
