Default Yet One More Jetting Question

this weekend, finished installing jet kit.

My configuration: klx300 exhaust with butt plug removed (will use a custom butt plug every once in awhile when i want to be a bit more quiet), stock air filter (for now), KDX200 snorkel, DJ 2152 kit (needle 3rd notch with 3 washers, 128 main, stock pilot. air screw 3 turns out (still stock screw, just ordered Kouba).

only issue i am having is backfiring every once in awhile on deceleration (not consistently.

the DJ troubleshooting says to open screw 1/2 turn, but won't that vibrate out (3 1/2)? should i change the pilot instead (to what, and would that be DJ or stock Kawi)?

thanks

Are you still running your original pilot? If so, that is probably your problem. I went to a #38 pilot after taking guys advice here and it's worked a treat (that is an OEM jet, not a Dynojet one - I don't think they supply pilots). I see there are others here with #40's too though, which is another option I guess.

3.5 turns out on your a/f screw means you'll need to go up on your pilot. If you read this awesome thread on Dirt Bike World it gives you a "Jetting 101" that explains things nice and simply for you: http://www.dirtbikeworld.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=26074

I also understand that you are never going to get away with no popping on hard decellerations. With the #38 in mine, my bike runs beautifully now, but still pops a little bit when going from wide-open-throttle (WOT) to closed quickly.

Oh, and another advantage of going for bigger pilot jet is MUCH easier starting when it's cold. In my case, I struggled to keep the bike idling on cold mornings even after she was warmed up on the stock jetting. Now she is fine, even on very cold mornings.

+! , go up on your pilot jet. Any farther out with the fuel screw and you risk it rattling out. You really don't want to lose your new $25 kouba screw once you put it in.

Mine went away when I got the right main jet in it. A byproduct of fixing a flat spot it had on wfo run about 6-6.5k. Mine dials in hot best with the stock 35 pj, with the screw only at ~1.5 to 2. On cold mornings or if the bike hasn't been ridden for a time, I just lean it over past 45deg for a few seconds to flood it. Then she lights right off.

The more open and unrestricted the pipe the more it's apt to burble and lightly pop off throttle. This is somewhat normal. If it's excessive it's not.

thanks, i did read that 101 jetting prior to doing the job. i didn't do the pilot since it did not come with the DJ kit.

i guess i will just go to the dealer tomorrow and get a 38 pilot.

and actually, i do not really have any popping at all on deceleration. just a real backfire every once in a while (the loud BANG).
