Wrenches and sockets

Wrenches and sockets
I did a quick search before I posted but I'd like some quick advice. Because all the nuts and bolts on our bike is 'metric' did most of you (who have imperial size wrenches and sockets) just go out and buy a whole new metric set?
I got some good advice on this forum about the bolt holding the shift lever on...someone warned that it was as soft as butter, so be careful. My imperial wrenches are just a slight bit too big, so I'll strip that thing in no time. Did you guys just buy a few wrenches, or should I just belly up for a whole set?
cheers

I agree. you'll need em all eventually.
for your bike/car/whatever. I seem to use my metric tools more than standard ones. try to get a set from 5 mm to 24 mm. some sets skip over certain numbers. I had to buy 18 mm for my cherokee to use at certain places.

"BTW, I replaced my shift lever bolt for one with a 10mm head."
Noob here, and I appreciate all the advice I can get. Can you please elaborate on the 10mm advice...I am assuming that this is bigger than the stock head? and how would I go about getting a new bolt...do you just take it off and try to match it at an automotive parts place, or bike shop?
thanks

Didn't have a problem just a precaution.
Yep, pull it out and any auto shop will be able to help.

I hardly use the inch tools anymore, except on air lines. But everything else has been metric tools. Best to just invest in some good quality tools like Craftmans.
As for the shift lever bolt, I never had a problem with it being a 8mm. Just don't go crazy torque wild and it should be fine.
