WR250R vs. KLX250S HP and Torque Comparison

RE: WR250R vs. KLX250S HP and Torque Comparison
I am still not clear on where those WR HP numbers are coming from. I also agree you cannot use a dyno run as your comparison unless both bikes were run on the same dyno, same day, same relative time with the same person running the machine.

rhrose, IG is the only one who is allowed to predict HP numbers of bikes that are not out yet & make claims without proof
Sowhich onewe need to find to get you to quit IG? That theKLX only makes around 18 rwhp, the fact that the WR will only make 20 rwhp or the fact that the WRF250 makes 30 rwhp?
rhrode please tell me you have graphs of what you posted

$1000 extra for FI. For someone that is getting a their first or new bike might consider it. But those that know, they can get a KLX, drop a $1,000 and turn that 250 to a 331 with new jets. The 331 conversion is still lingering in my mind, but I believe I will save and go for a new KLR650.

250 to 331 for $1000? try around $600-$700. find a used 300 cyl. on ebay and then send it to KK. $1000 might get you a slip-on in addition if you know where to look.
KLXer- don't get your hopes up. he must have seen his shadow. ain't no one proved me wrong yet.
what part of those statements do you disagree with? You're more intelligent than to argue with those numbers. I mean, if you know these types of bikes, you know that those numbers are common sense. The stock KLX dyno's at 16-18 rwhp all day long. It's sad, but true.

Tremor38. Thanks for your thoughts. FYI the WR250R weighs less than than the KLX - but very little less - like 2 lbs. The HP and torque figures for the WR came off of the Yamaha Europe web site . As best as I can tell most, if not all, users of this site are pretty much in agreement that the KLX is putting out appox. 18 RWHP. I found two more sites where the KLX dynoed at 17 HP so I used the more accepted figure. Also, if you believe the EXUP valve creates more low end torque I would consider that a plus. As you already know I am not very mechanically inclined, but I don't believe changing the sprockets has a whit to do with increasing - or decreasing for that matter the - HP. Rest assured that I plan on riding both bikes before I decide, but I already know I would very likely be happy with either bike.
PS - I read on another forum that a Kawa/Yamie dealer who had ridden both bikessaid there was no comparison - - the WR was far superior power wise to the KLX. Just another opinion if u will.

IR - to prove you wrong lets start by your re-reading my original post. I said the WR. makes 30.7 HP - not 30 HP RWHP. I calculated the WR makes 24.56 RWHP. The 30.7 HP and the torque numbers came from the Yamaha Europe web site as the manufacturers ratings - so theres probably in-the-ballpark. Any way you cut itI stand by my belief that the stock WR250 will make 5-7 more RWHP than the stock KLX. There have been several other dyno tests of the stock KLX and to the best of my knowledge they have all shown the KLX makes 17-18 RWHP.Don't get defensive - it'no big deal. Ilove the KLX and may very well end up with one. Just exploring what's out there that may give me the same performance as an opened up KLX with the carb mods and exhaust for the same or lesser price.Guess we will have to wait to see who is right. In the meantime enjoy your bike whatever it isand just ride, ride ,ride. PEACE BRO

I doesn't matter how much hp the wr. puts out because as soon as IG gets an 09 klx there won't be a better looking, better handling, better performing bike on the market.

I ride naked so that it cuts down on wind drag and just gives me the upper hand on the higher powered bikes out there.
i mean why not right????
