That pic brings back memories. I've never had an XR75 but had known kids who did. I had a Suzuki DS80 during those times and loved it until I got too big for it and it started bottoming out on jumps.

Here are some pics of my old DT125. If you look closely you'll see how bent up the left handlebar is from my crash into the house. LOL! Oh, and JRock, since the KLX is your first bike, it qualifies as your worst bike AND your best bike.

Worst bike, but best warranty: My brand new 1971 Kawasaki 350 Bighorn. That beast was faster than lightning and had about half the lifespan. In the 6000 miles I owned it, it seized up 12 times. Each time they replaced the piston and nine of them it got a new cylinder. That monster scared me spitless time and time again as I would be running down the highway with my girlfriend on back at, oh, maybe 90 mph. Suddenly it would start to rattle and before I could pull in the clutch, it would lock up tighter than Dick's hatband! The rear tire would skid until I could grab the clutch and save us from her mom, who would have killed us both if I'd have brought her home withe road rash.
Loved to hate that bike. I traded it to my best friend for a 69 Savage and an AT1. Two of the best bikes I've ever owned.

Depends on what criteria you use.

Worst to ride (off road)?
1983 XL500r.
One word, Pig.
Lipstick or no lipstick.
That thing was a big heavy bush pig.

But the 1983 XR350r was a lot better to ride but an absolute b**ch to start.
Especially when it was a 100 in the shade, you had just crashed and your 5'4".
And reliability wasn't it strong point either.
When the top end let go whilst I was flat out in 3rd, completely destroying the head, cams etc, that bike had to go.

Full list from memory.
Dirt
1974 Suzuki TM125
1979 Suzuki RM125N
1983 Suzuki RM125D
1979 Honda XL250S
1983 Honda XR350R
1983 Honda XL500R
1987 Kawasaki KDX 200
1991 Kawasaki KDX 200
1994 Suzuki DR350
2006 Kawasaki KLX250R (still have)

Road
1980 Suzuki GS1000ST
1988 Honda CBR1000
1996 Homda VT1100C2
1996 Ducati 900SS (Still have)

I also ran a trail bike hire company for a while.
We had 4 late 80's Yamaha DT175's and 4 Suzuki TS185ER's.

Only two bikes before the KLX, a Suzuki 50 and a Honda Trail 70. That little 50 was fun for an eight year old, until I ran it through a barbed wire fence. Punctured the gas tank, and my leg.

Haha! That reminds me of my first bike...the Suzuki 50cc 'Trail Hopper' 2-cycle. Not a bad bike, but I out grew it quickly.

The nerdiest bike I ever rode was a honda 55 owned by my father. I swear I see that thing re-incarnated every time one of our Japanese posties zip by on a Super cub 50.

He later brought home a bucket of bolts from a frustrated neighbor, put it together and had a Honda 150 Dream. Very rare in the states I believe. Never got to ride that one. Took it off the stand once and got pinned underneath...heavy azz bike for the displacement, but I wan't very big at that time either.

The next bike was a Yamaha 100 enduro. That thing had some serious get-up compared to what I had ridden so far...lot's of fun on that bike!

Next ride was a Penton 125. Lots of zip and OK off-road manners, but I didn't like the on-off switch character of the thottle....seems like it was either closed or at WOT..no in-between at all. My friend's RM125 was way more controllable. We sold the Penton after one season and played with an Elsi 250 for couple of years. That thing felt scary fast the first time I rode it, but it's still one of my favorites.

Spent about a year bikeless in the military before picking-up a CX-500 honda (sport version). Thought it would be great in the corners, but it had very weak forks, so it felt more like a boat. I invested in some air forks, which totally tranformed the handling. Had to buy a Kamei cafe racer style fairing to fit the new found personality. Had that bike for 2 years..great ride, but a little bit under powered. Saw an old CX-500 custom sitting in the Kawi garage the other day, which brought back some good memories.

After selling the CX, I Went bikeless for the next 10 YEARS. Finally broke down and bought a brand new CBR1100XX blackbird here in Japan...very smooth engine with plenty of power, but the suspension was a bit on the soft side for how I like to ride. It also had this goofy CBS system that wasn't too much fun if you wanted full control of your brakes. Still had lots of fun on that ride though.

Kept the CBR fo 2 years then got a YZF1000R...now that's what I'm talkin about! Pretty close to sportbike nirvana for me at that time. Had it for about 2 years before selling it back to the dealer after I crashed it and suffered permanent nerve damage in my left arm. I thought I knew the road well, but recent construction work at that time proved me wrong...lesson learned.

3 years of rehab went by and I caught the bug again. The D-tracker was a bit of a compromise for me at the time I bought it, but I have really grown to like this bike. The seating postion suits me well too. I don't think my bumb left arm and shoulder could take much of the crotch rocket stance anymore.
