This is mine with stock wiring using a OEM Kawasaki headlight (not the KLX one)

Might have been something my mum said to me when i was 2.
I need therapy.

No...I agree with your "headlight off" concept. I installed switches on my KLR650 and my KLX250. I run off road with the headlights off and always start with the headlight off. The KLX has such a tiny battery. In a marginal situation, I'm sure it helps a bit. I ride alone quite a bit in off road situations. I like the battery being as "stout" as possible on restarts. While the KLX is easier to bump start than my KLR, sitting in the bottom of a dry or wet creek with no downhill handy...well...I like the security of few more cranking watts to get me started again...especially with no kickstart at hand.
