Default Will a Pirelli MT-21 in 130/80-18 fit the rear of 2009?

I picked up a 130/80-18 at a spur of the moment deal at a place called Schmoes Tire Emporium for $45 cash and carry.... Now I am wondering, will that fit? Looks kind of large?

my guess is it will. i had the same tire in a 120, and there were no issues. it will be a big tire to turn though.

How do you like it in the woods and how do feel about it on the road?

I have a Trackmaster II as well setting here. The MT-21 looks like as long as you go around the mud, it may work well off road, and it looks like it will not be a bad street tire.

I know the TM2 is a bad to the bone off road DOT tire, and will roll in a circle when on the street.... but it will not like the street and only takes about 800 miles of street use before it is about useless offroad.

In the woods (and the mud) it is VERY good. I live in the North East, and do mainly single track, and there are lots of roots, rocks and mud. I really like the tire on the KLX. I only had about 500 miles on it when i sold the bike yesterday, but it was wearing very well. I don't do a lot of riding on the road though, just mainly quick errands around town, and the connecting roads on the loops that I ride. I can only compare it to the stock D605, which absolutely sucks off-road. i spent more time flat on my face because of the front end washing out. with the mt-21, i never was flat on my face because of the tire. rider inabilty is another story though :-).

my new (to me) husqvarna has the Pirelli mt-450 on the front (not sure if its DOT or not) and a Dunlop Geomax MX51, which clearly says NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE on it. Can't wait to try it out. just got it registered today (raining), then going for college vists for my daughter this weekend, so who knows when I will get to try it :-(

Depending on your area of the NE, your terrain may be similar to what we ride in PA. Mud, clay, rock, cliffs, loose rock, and once in a while there is a place level enough that you can use a kickstand.

I had a 130mm Dunlop D606 on my 07 klx. Just for reference. It didnt seem to make much difference good or bad. I wouldn't spend the extra on a 130 again.

Even if it would, it is too much tire for the bike. MX racers don't run anything that big on the 250s or 450s. It will just reduce performance in virtually all cases on a 250. Just be aware of the draw backs.

You guys are gonna laugh, but I run a 100/100 on the rear of my 300 jugged KLX. I ride in CO, UT, and in my home area on a really rocky, loose, gnarly terrain. This bike doesn't need huge tires. Now I'm not saying you should or have to run the size I run by any means, but the taller/fatter tire takes more power, slows response a bit, and raises the rear of the bike. I've not found traction to be a weak point in the power band of this bike...seems like it will tractor through, up, and over anything as long as you're not running a slick. As guys we're always a bit sensitive to the bigger-is-better mantra...LOL!...but it's not always required. One other thing to consider with a very large tire, make sure your chain is long enough so that when you push the tire forward in the swingarm to remove it like for a flat or such, you can slip the chain off the rear sprocket without any drama. I've seen instances on some bikes with a huge tire and a given chain length where getting the rear tire out really turns out to be a headache...doable but a headache.
